Updated: Nov 3, 2019

Let’s briefly talk about REAL ID, why you should use a travel agent and safety while traveling.

Here is what you need to know about REAL ID and the upcoming deadline. The Department of Homeland Security full compliance is set for Oct. 1, 2020. If you do not have a passport, or REAL ID you will not be able to fly. Your driver’s license or state id should have a “star” in the corner.

Ten reasons to use a travel agent.

  1. Travel is getting more complicated and having a professional taking care of the logistics and planning allows for more time to enjoy your vacation.

  2. Travel professionals are on top of what’s new and exciting. They are on top of the trends and categories at new resorts and airlines.

  3. Travel professionals save you time and stress.

  4. Travel professionals have your back when need an advocate.

  5. There is no do-over for a vacation gone wrong. Agents save you hours on research to find the perfect vacation spot and sitting on hold for hours with short staffed airlines and resorts

  6. Travel professionals add a human element and an element of trust. We are invested in your happiness and satisfaction.

  7. The world is constantly changing, and travel agents are on the ground experiencing it. Is it safe to travel to the Dominican? Has Turks recovered from the Hurricane?

  8. Travel professionals offer unique services for discerning clients.

  9. They often save you money-and if not, deliver more value.

  10. Like any professional advisor, they really do know more than you do.

Travel safety 101.

  1. Make sure your family knows where you are staying and let them know you have arrived safely.

  2. Check in with them so that they know you are ok.

  3. Make copies of your passport.

  4. Keep one in your luggage, one at home, one in the safe in the hotel.

  5. Do not give out your room number or tell anyone that you are traveling alone.

  6. Bolt lock your doors and balcony.

  7. Do not carry large amounts of cash.

  8. When traveling international register with https://step.state.gov/ PURCHASE travel insurance. I do not know how to stress this anymore than I have specifically when you are traveling internationally. I have insurance for both domestic and international.

  9. Do not try to out drink the bar. Enjoy but drink responsibly.

  10. Do not leave your drink unattended.Use the buddy system, do not walk at night alone.
